Car Reviews 2026 Audi R8

Audi are well known for their economic, efficient, high quality and reliable cars. From businessmen to families, Audi have definitely joined the ranks of BMW and Mercedes when it comes to providing excellent “everyday” cars. However, even the normally reserved Audi have recently forayed into the more extravagant, raw and outlandish world of the supercar. The Audi R8 is a stunning car, no doubt. The sleek, flowing lines and the menacing grille at the front and under the headlights, along with the carbon fibre, side panels give it the supercar “look”. However, it is still typically Audi; a little too “safe”. It is neither as beautiful as an Aston Martin, nor as flamboyant as a Lamborghini. The interior is smart, attractive and well organised. It is also full of the usual modern day amenities such as satellite navigation and an audio system. While the exterior and interior do impress a lot, it is not the looks that will make or break this car. That will boil down to performance. Under the hood the R8 packs a lot of punch. A 4.2 litre V-8 powering out 420bhp comes as standard and is a treat in itself. However if one chooses, they can upgrade to a mighty 5.2 litre V-10 which produces around 525bhp. The power this car generates certainly rivals most high end sports cars and some supercars. For the first time in an Audi, the engine is mid-mounted, providing perfect balance between the front and back wheels of this Quattro all-wheel drive vehicle. A six speed manual or a six speed automated manual can be chosen for the transmission. The latter comes with Audi’s S Tronic system with shift paddles which makes the response time of the car very quick and impressive. The engine, combined with this system, makes the car a true pleasure to drive. Possibly the best thing about this Audi is the price tag. Not exactly available to everyone, and definitely not to those on a budget, the R8 is, however, definitely one of the most affordable supercars out there. You can own one for around 75,000 pounds or more. The safety features are also excellent, with ABS, front and side airbags. Knee airbags are slightly different but welcome and the car also comes with traction control and stability control, not that the latter will need to be used because of how good the handling is. The Audi R8 is a powerful, attractive and well manufactured supercar. Its speed and drive impress no end and are testament to Audi’s engineering ability. Although the car is a little more reserved than many would like it to be, it still sits with pride alongside its rivals, and for a considerably smaller price tag. The R8 is typically Audi, and that means comfort, style, power, performance and reliability. This car is fantastic.
